the litter emerges from the snow, dec. 30

Enjoyed the litter free (almost) snowshoe walk in the snow at the park on Sunday. It wasn’t until we came upon an area where people were sledding that I found one piece. Undoubtedly, it probably fell off of a sled, but it was litter nonetheless. Later, while walking Homer around the neighborhood, it didn’t take [...]

there’s always litter, with or without snow, dec. 27

Yesterday, Homer and I ventured out in the snow for a nice walk. More flakes were coming down on top of the 8+ inches that already fell. I was naive to think we wouldn’t spot any litter in all of that snow, but alas, we did – a beer can and a beer bottle – [...]

all I want for Christmas is no litter, dec. 25

Well, we were hit with the first “blizzard” in over forty years. So, as I’ve said before that the great thing about snow, besides being so pretty, is that it covers up all the litter. So, it may be a few days until I can give a litter update. Until then, enjoy Homer.

litter litter everywhere, dec. 20

Starting to think that most people really do not care. Whether walking in the neighborhood or near work, it’s everywhere and we accept it. Why?
This cigarette pack looks like it’s been there a while. This was found on a busy street. I lost count of the cigarette butts I saw on my walk with Homer.
Here [...]

streets of trash, dec. 18

Last night, Homer and I took a walk through the hood and decided to check out a few streets we hadn’t been on in a while. Found a hairnet, of all things. We made our way home  down the “street of litter.” There was lots to see. Picked up a total of seven cans – [...]

litter in shades of red and green, dec. 16

I’d like to take a moment to thank Bridging the Gap, a local environmental organization, for mentioning this blog on their Facebook page. I found another post on their FB page very interesting. It states that “One-third of our trash is PACKAGING! Think before you buy and JUST SAY NO to overpackaged goods!” This is [...]

a room with a view…of litter, and other findings, dec. 13

Some days you don’t even need to leave your house to find litter. You can just open up your blind and voila, there it is! Today, it consisted of a fast food wrapper and styrofoam cup from two different fast food establishments. So, out to the street I went in my pajamas to pick it [...]

litter and snow, dec. 10

You know what’s great about the snow, besides being so pretty? That’s right. It covers up litter. Well, most of it anyway. You know what’s great about trash cans? It’s where litter goes, most of the time. On a positive note, I did hear back from the mayor about the litter in the retaining area. [...]

creative littering, dec. 08

Some people are just downright creative with their litter. Tonight when I was leaving work, I spotted a paper cup placed upside down atop a fire hydrant. Very clever.

new uses for plastic and other thoughts, dec. 06

Reduce. Recycle. Re-chew?
Shortly after photographing Homer chewing on a plastic bottle, I headed out to run errands. It didn’t take long before I spotted some litter at a nearby intersection. There’s too much litter out there, people.
This looks like the typical example of someone pulling up to a stop sign and chucking their unwanted litter [...]
